Weekly News

April 22-26

It is hard to believe that there are only 24 days of 1st grade left!!  I remember telling you we had been in school for 24 days.  It is crazy to think about how much your child has learned and that he/she is ready for 2nd grade.

We will be going on a field trip on May 13 after chapel.  A note is included with more information.

All of the students were retested on their sight words.  Most have new word cards in their baggies.  We will begin winding down the year with flashcards, and, also, taking the sounds test, the NWEA, and the timed reading test for benchmarks.

Thank you for the continued support of classroom balls, chalk, and other equipment.  I really appreciate the donations of the Culver's Scoopies that I redeem for treasure box prizes and other playground equipment.

Happy Birthday to Weston!

Miriam is the "Star" Student

Elias will bring something to keep us guessing!

We are so grateful to Mrs. Daugherty, Mrs. Goben and Mr. Kleber for helping us with library throughout this year.

Dates to remember:

*April 21-Art Show (notes in folder)

*April 29-Pickles and Popcorn distribution

*May 2-Spring concert

*May 8-15 NWEA testing

*May 13-Field trip to Muscatatuck

We will collect offerings on Mondays.  Our offerings in April and May will go to Lutheran World Relief. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

We are often in need of items in our classroom (like tooth holders or chart paper) or playground equipment (like kickballs or jumpropes). I have an Amazon wishlist for our class. If you or a family member would like to support us,here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1QWJ6YXZSCHGL?ref_=wl_share

Our school has lots of Fund raising opportunities! The office sells Scrip, which are gift cards to retailers to use like cash.  You get the amount that you pay for, but the school gets a percentage back on the sale. BoxTops (you can enter your receipt online and earn money for the school) and Amazon Smile are also ways for ILS to earn money. Thanks for all the support!

I collect poptabs, which are taken to Riley Children's Hospital. They are converted to help families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

He is Risen, Indeed!

In His service,

Mrs. Bell

Reading

Please make sure the reading books are returned each day.

We are reading stories about being afraid.  We will recognize that all of us have fears. We have written a story about a time that we were afraid and how the fear was soothed.

We have begun to identify subject and predicate of sentences. The students really like the old "Schoolhouse Rock" videos on these concepts.

We will continue to work on nouns, sentence types, and commas in a series. Also, we will continue to practice synonyms, antonyms, prefixes, suffixes, irregular plurals, vowel digraphs, subject/verb agreement, adjectives, adverbs, and so much more.
